my treatment
Genre- Music Video
Duration- 3minutes to 3 and half minutes
Target Audience- 16-25 years old and will be mainly aimed at females
Outline- The whole music video revolves around the narrative of a young male that is deeply in love with this amazing women. He continually flashbacks to the 'good times' they have shared, yet gets bought back to the sad reality of their 'doomed relationship' every time. The major twist, that is revealed at the end, is that he is in fact a 'stalker' and this women has no idea who he is.
Character Breakdown- there will be three characters that will be repeatedly used throughout. The artist will not be the protagonist in the music video; as this could reflect badly on the brands image. So, instead, a young male named Ben, aged 17 will play this character. The female character will be a young women who is very much in the public eye. Lastly, the artist will feature in the music video as I will be getting them to do short clips of lip syncing.
Visual Elements-
Lighting- during the times of the young male having flashbacks, the lighting will be bright. This will then contrasted with the dark lighting that will be present when he is bought back to reality.
Camera Movement-I plan to use a lot of slow camera movements during the flashbacks to reinforce the sense of nostalgia. And then use little camera movement when the artist is lip syncing.
Editing- when the young male has his flashbacks, I will add rosey/pink tints to the background to help the audience be able to follow the narrative and for them to be aware of when he is essentially day-dreaming. Also, during the chorus' I will introduce faster pace editing to create an appropriate tempo.
Setting- I will be using various settings throughout the music video. When the artist is simply lip syncing, there will be a basic, plain background. During the flashbacks, the setting will involve an area that is considered to have a lot of 'life', with there being crowds and an overwhelming sense of happiness. Contrasting with this setting, the next area of filming will be somewhere more isolated and is run-down. This is to help enforce the depressing atmosphere and portray the young male's feelings when he is bought back to his harsh reality.
Props- I won't be using many props, throughout the music video, that have much significance. Some examples of the props that I will be using are clocks and mobile phones.
Costume- each character will have a completely different costume, to reflect how their lives differ from one another. The young male will also have two costumes, to reflect both situations that he is in throughout the music video.
Audio Elements- the soundtrack that I will use is James Hersey 'Tomorrow'
Rationale- I chose to create this narrative as I wanted to represent the reality that we live in today. I will especially revolve the music video around social media and how everything is not always what it seems to be online. I also wanted to present how it can be considered as simply 'fan-girling' when a young female is in the same situation; but when it comes to a male being similar to this, he is considered to be a stalker. I wanted to break some of the negative stereotypes that the younger generation face today.
Requirements and Resources- I will, clearly, need two actors to play the young male and female. And I will then need my artist to be involved, so that he can lip sync. A camera and tripod will also be required. The settings that I am planning to use are very public so there should not be an issue with access.
Constraints and Contingency- the main problem I may face is, in fact, trying to find someone to play these roles. I will be asking multiple people to play these roles so that I am still able to find two actors.
Legal and Ethnic Considerations- I am very aware that when representing the younger generation, I have to be careful about how I do this. I do not want to end up creating more negative stereotypes.
Budget- money is not really an influence on my music video as the equipment that I will need to use to film, is provided by my school. And where I am using mainly public settings, I shouldn't be needing much money to access these areas.
